Why We Built This Site
Michigan gives the public broad access to court records through the state Freedom of Information Act. The hard part is figuring out which office holds the file you want. The Circuit Court handles felony, family, and higher civil cases across Ingham County. The District Courts, split among the 54th, 54-A, and 54-B, take misdemeanor, traffic, and small claims matters. The County Clerk, Barb Byrum, keeps vital records and serves as Clerk of the Circuit Court for court filings, while the Probate Court manages estates and guardianships. The Ingham County Sheriff runs the jail roster and active warrants. Add the Michigan State Police and the Michigan Department of State, and the picture gets crowded fast. Only the issuing court or government office can provide a certified copy with an official seal. We can point you to the right office, but the document has to come from them.
